Results of treatment of children with complications after burns of the esophagus from button batteries

Aim. To enhance the treatment outcomes in children with complications following an esophageal burn caused by a disk battery. Materials and Methods. We analyzed of 102 patients suffering from burns battery, who were treated at N.F. Filatov Children’s City Hospital Moscow Healthcare Ministry 2009 to 2021. Children developed (n=57) divided according strategy employed: conservative tactics (n=36, 63.2%) radical surgery (n=21, 36.8%). Results Discussion. The types surgical interventions carried out for tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) (n=31) included laparoscopic fundoplication gastrostomy (38.7%), separation TEF (41.9%), tracheal plastic flap extirpation esophagus (19.4%). Assessment post demonstrated spontaneous closure 63.6% cases. average time until was 5 months. Among stenosis (n=24), bougienage performed 95.8% All identified perforation (n=4) successfully conservatively. Tactics managing laryngeal paresis or paralysis therapy observation 33.3% cases, tracheostomy 29.2%, lateralization procedures 37.5%. Conclusion. Conservative superior results all complications, minimizing number postoperative (16.7%) ensuring favorable long-term outcomes.
